Free at Last - Col. Ann Wright Out of JailSubmitted by Lydia Vickers on December 7, 2007 - 7:03pm.
Medea is on the way to the house and we are all going to the Pakistan hearing - NO MONEY FOR PAKISTAN (just in case you want something to call about :-D) Lastly, check out Democracy NOW today - Sally Newman, our new CP law student was interviewed and she was eloquent. I'm in the black hood (too funny, we're alllll in black hoods) but I have a sign that says Adel Hamad. His lawyer sent me a thank you note today... Off to do some house work and then - TO THE HILLLLLLL - NO MONEY FOR PAKISTAN! L. Post new comment |

Notes from DC
Dear All,
Today started off with Medea and Tighe sharing the let down from traveling for 34 hours to land in town, in a country, that really doesn't seem to get it. They were absolutely terrorized in Pakistan, guns were pointed at them and officials demanded the leave the country. Sadly our Embassy did nothing.
Ann Wright, diplomat extraordinaire decided we needed to huddle up and do what we could to support these 2 awesome activists. After a small meeting we decided to rally round and do an action and a press conference. We all took a few pages of press numbers and made calls for about an hour.
Then we pinked out and made signs - "Musharraf MUST GO" and "Musharrah Kidnaps Americans" and headed out to the State Department.
Medea megaphoned, Tighe megaphoned and each of us went up to the front steps to ask for someone to come and help us. We chanted and waited for someone to come out - which of course never happened. It was, by the way, absolutely freezing and we were alternating standing on the steam grating to keep warm.
As usual there was at least one officer for each of us, one on each corner and others waiting to come out in case us grandparents in pink decided to do something terrorizing. They laugh at us sometimes but you can't imagine what a kick we get out off bringing them out in the cold streets to watch us. Seriously, we giggle and laugh out loud sometimes.
After this action, and lunch, we went to the Institute for Policy Studies for a press conference. We got to hear the first hand personal story from Medea and Tighe. This is when I saw for myself how shaken and frighten Medea must have been as guns and rifles were pointed at her and she knew for many moments that she was in danger. Tighe was there by her side, but he was helpless in the face of the adversity they faced.
Marcus Raskin, who founded the IPS came and answered questions. What a wonderful, gentle, kind person. Older, of course, and full of hope. He suggested that the 100 days before Bush leaves and the 100 days of the next administration are probably our most important opportunities we will have to make changes. So, October 10th, 2009 is a huge start date for us all - be ready!
We came home from the cold to a warm house and the cooking began. All of the meals here come from a little of this and a little of that and - WOW - always the best.
During the cooking we decided to listen to Latin music and the dancing began. We were every where in that dining room tonight. After dinner and we watched Keith Oberman until he started with the Barry Bonds and Paris/Brittany stuff (we all wish he wouldn't do that crap).
Medea wanted to sing Christmas carols, so we did. Then we melded into old songs, (CS&N, Beatles, Supremes, Monkeys, Neal Young and on and on).
It's now after 11:00 PM and I so happy to be here. Good night & Peace Lydia
